Trial by Media: Advantages and Disadvantages

One day national seminar on Trial by Media: Advantages and Disadvantages is scheduled to be held on May 19, 2012 at IMS Seminar Hall, IMS Law College, Noida.

The purpose of this seminar is to find out proper mechanism so that the media can remain free to bring the cases like Jessica Lal before the court to assist in the delivery of justice and on the other hand it may not encroach the jurisdiction of the courts of law, cause hindrances in the criminal justice administration and invade the fair trial as happened in various cases like Aarushi murder.

IMS Law College has, therefore, considered it desirable and prudent to organize a one day national seminar on Trial by Media entailing various issues such as:

i)                    Media Trial v/s Fair Trial
ii)                  Media Trial: Need of Demarcation of its Limits, and
iii)                Media Trial: Misuse or overuse of Freedom of Press

Report by the participating students:

March  28th  was a day when we all learned a thing, that is misery and pain are so very predominant in this universe that our individual pain looks very small in front of them. There are so many children throughout India and the universe who have no one in their life at all. There is not a single person also to give them a glass of water. Another scenario is there are even children’s who have their parents but still their parents don’t earn enough to feed their children’s. Endless pain and misery lies in this so called era of development and technology.

The thing which we need is a helping hand from our society to help these children’s. Many Ngo's are coming up to help these children’s. One such Ngo is ASHRAYA BHAVAN located in Faridabad. We had the opportunity to visit this Ngo on march 28th 2012.A Ngo run by Mr.Chandy Verghese. It consists of 60 children’s. An effort was taken by us so that we can add a bit of spice in there gloomy life. Drawing competition was organized by us. We find out some good painters there. 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize was also given to them. Then after that we played some games with the childrens. There were some brilliant chess players even. The children’s played like as if it was there last day of playing. They were very happy to get some company for themselves. To add to their happiness we gave pencils, erasers, pens and stickers, duck toy ,tops, earrings to girl, books and many more to them. The children were really happy to receive those gifts. They were very much excited even to receive those things from us. Lastly before leaving snacks were served by us to the children. This was a day when we all felt that we all could do a little bit for the mankind and our society.
